North Harris County Regional Water Authority Announces Rate Reduction Effective October 1, 2023

At its regular Board meeting September 11, 2023, the Board of Directors of the North Harris County Regional Water Authority (NHCRWA) voted to reduce water rates commencing October 1, 2023.

Northwest Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 10 has reduced the fee from $4.51 to $3.96 per thousand gallons of usage, and the reduction will be indicted on all water bills going forward.

Notice of Stage 2 of the Drought Contingency Plan Implemented

  1. All detectible water leaks must be repaired within 72 hours of discovery.
  2. All Outdoor irrigation shall be limited  to no more than two (2) days per week and may be limited to (1) day per week.  Outdoor irrigation shall be permitted between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. of the following day in conformity with the following schedule (no watering on Mondays).
    • Sundays and/or Thursdays for single family residential customers with even-numbered addresses;
    • Saturdays and/or Wednesdays for single family residential customers with odd-numbered street addresses; and
    • Tuesdays and/or Fridays for all other customers

Compliance with the above requirements is mandatory.

Important Clarification: Locations and Contacts for West Harris County MUD No. 10

To our valued residents,

We’ve recently observed a surge in emails concerning water pressure issues directed to Northwest Harris County MUD No. 10. We’d like to provide some clarity to ensure everyone is reaching out to the correct district for assistance.

Northwest Harris County MUD No. 10 is situated near Highway 290 and Barker Cypress in Cypress, Texas. If you reside in this vicinity, you are indeed within our jurisdiction.

However, if your address falls within West Harris County MUD No. 10, specifically around the Memorial Chase area by Highway 249, please note that you should be reaching out to Si Environmental, the operator for WHCMUD No. 10. They can be contacted at 281-807-9500 for any water-related concerns.

We understand the potential for confusion given the similarity in names, but we urge residents to check their district and direct their concerns to the appropriate authority. This ensures quicker resolutions and fewer delays.

Reduced NHWRA Fee

The NHWRA fee has been reduced.

The surface water rates are $4.55 per 1,000 gallons and groundwater pumpage fees are $4.10 per 1,000 gallons. These rate cuts, the first cuts in the history of NHCRWA, will go into effect February 1, 2023.

No Boil Water Notice

There is no boil water notice in effect for Northwest Harris County Municipal Utility District #10 residents or businesses.  The City of Houston has issued a Boil Water Notice for their water system and other systems effected by the City’s issue. While local media (and social media) are reporting boil water notices for the City and those other Water Districts in our area, these notices do not pertain to Northwest Harris County Municipal Utility District #10 receivers, as the District maintains independent water production facilities. Again, Northwest Harris County Municipal Utility District #10 is not currently under a Boil Water Notice.

Voluntary Water Use Restrictions Now in Place

Dear Customer,

Due to ongoing drought conditions, The North Harris County Regional Authority (NHCRWA) initiated Stage 1 water conservation measures. Because Northwest Harris County MUD 10 is located within the boundaries of the NHCRWA, we are required to initiate Stage 1 voluntary water conservation measures. The NHCRWA and Northwest Harris County MUD 10 may require mandatory water use restrictions if conditions worsen. Effective immediately, the following voluntary water use restrictions are in place:

  • Customers are requested to practice water conservation and to minimize water use.
  • Customers are requested to voluntarily limit all outdoor water use times. Do not use water between the hours of 6:00 am and 10:00 am and between the hours of 6:00 pm and midnight.
  • Customers are requested to limit the days outdoor water is used. Customers with odd-numbered addresses should use water on odd-numbered days and customers with even-numbered addresses should use water on even-numbered days.

Thank you for your cooperation – Customers will be notified when these restrictions are no longer required or if conditions warrant additional conservation measures.
